Private Heath Matthews of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion,
Royal Canadian Regiment, awaiting medical aid after night patrol near Hill
166. Pte. Heath Mathews was a signaller and was wounded during a company
strength raid on an enemy position the night of 22 June 1952. The photo
appeared in numerous North American newspapers under the caption "The Face
of War". He was 20 years old at the time of the photo. Heath was the son
of Mr. & Mrs. E. Matthews of 2315 Hingston Ave, and returned home in
September of 1952.
